I Can See You, Can You See Me?

We play this little game. Whoever's animal is being read picks a number based on a list they've created. The person doing the reading intuitively receives the number.

My friend Melanie and I have been sharing readings with each other for a while now.

Melanie is a fellow practitioner in the animal communication space and a horse professional. We catch up and chat for a bit. Then we settle in, and one of us will do a reading for the other. It was my turn to connect with one of Melanie's animals.

I had just returned from a Horse and Soul retreat in Costa Rica. Melanie thought it would be appropriate for the list to just be horses. She had numbered her herd 1 through 14. She told me she'd left it open for whichever animal wanted to connect with me to step forward.

When she said the numbers went to 14, it was immediate. "Okay. Well, I can tell you right now, when you said 14, it's 14, so…"

"This is… this isn't… this is gonna be unusual," Melanie said. "Because I can't tell you if it's male or female. It's about to be born."

What I saw first was the foal, floating inside a bubble. Protected. Their head poked out to greet me. I heard, "I can see you, can you see me?" I laughed. Yes. Yes, I can.

When I asked what they'd like to be called, I heard, "Star. Star 2 is good for now." I asked, "Star the Second?" No. "Star 2." Not a title. A name with a number in it. They were very specific.

I felt within me an energy that was bubbly, upbeat, playful… with something underneath it. I kept reaching for the word. It finally came: wicked. Not dark. Just… a little mischief in the sparkle. That's what I was receiving from Star 2.

And then came this feeling of pride. Not just pride in herself, but pride in what she was coming into. At some point, I started saying "she" without being told. It came as a knowing.

I saw a document in my hand. It said "Soul Contract" across the top, written on fabric like a scroll. Rows of items with two columns of boxes on the left side. The left column, all checked. Those were the agreed-upon items. The right column unchecked, not yet fulfilled. Before I could look closer, she grabbed it from me, pulled it back into the bubble. "This is ours."

I asked Melanie if she had a question for Star 2. "Yeah, I mean, my question was gonna be, what is our soul contract?" Star 2 brought it up before Melanie had the chance. Surprised, but not surprised.

Melanie asked Star 2 to tell her more about the soul contract. What came through was a series of knowings: the contract holds a different set of items than what Melanie has worked with before. At a different level. More internal. Changes occur internally first, then become visible externally. The items will be very specific, and Melanie will recognize each one as it surfaces. That awareness is partly because of her own growth in animal communication. The connection between the two of them will flow more easily as a result.

Then Star 2 asked if I would invite Mr. Big in.

Mr. Big is a horse at Tula Vida**, in Costa Rica, where I'd just been for Danielle MacKinnon's Horse and Soul Retreat. He was the horse that picked me during my time there (which is a whole separate story). He came right up to the bubble, pressed his head against it, head to head with Star 2. He said to me, "Well, you've been busy." I was about to say "Mr. Big, this is Star…" when I heard "I know." He already knew her.

The next word that came out of me was, "damn." I see him going down with his front legs, and I say, "he's… he's bowing." He bows to this unborn foal. And she tapped his head with a little sparkly wand.

I felt him radiating love outward to all of us. Melanie is with us now in what I see. And then a knowing of their connection as I told Melanie, "That… so there's… there's a connection there, too, with them."

I have a knowing that she is coming into the world as he is approaching the completion of his time here and moving into his next phase. There's a passing of something between them. I couldn't see what it was. Just that it was there.

She showed me an image of herself, born and running. First in a straight line, mane flowing, a feeling of pure freedom. Then, in a ring, head high, chest forward, carrying herself like she already knew she belonged there. I heard her say, "I can be many things to different people." And then, with humor, "Different things to many people."

I saw Star 2 move to Melanie, enveloping her inside the bubble, the two together. As the reading was ending, I felt love from Star and heard the words, "I can't wait to come out. To be here."

After the reading, Melanie shared with me what I hadn't known going in.

Star, the biological mother, had two embryos. Melanie had written "Star 1" and "Star 2" on her list. She had circled Star 2 as the one she felt a strong soul contract connection with. When I said 14 at the start, and when I asked what they wanted to be called, and heard "Star Two," it matched exactly what Melanie had written down. The foal had identified herself. I got goosebumps. I still get them thinking about it.

The soul contract appearing before Melanie even had the chance to ask her question was its own kind of confirmation. She was about to ask, and Star 2 had already answered.

Melanie told me that Star 2 comes from a long line of performance show horses. And because of that, it matters that the horse genuinely enjoys being shown. So when I'd described Star 2 in the ring, head high, chest forward, carrying herself like she already knew she belonged there, that answered whether this foal would enjoy it. Melanie lit up. Good for Star 2, and good for Melanie. This meant so much to me, and honestly, I'm still a little amazed that I can do this.

The bubble meant something, too. Melanie uses a communication exercise regularly with her horse, Chandler. He's been the only one she's been able to go inside the bubble with, until now. The bubble had felt like one of the deepest pieces of the reading, and hearing that confirmed it.

And then Melanie connected the phrase, "different things to many people" to Hoppy, a horse now passed, who is still eulogized daily by people who each remember her for something different.

I think back to the moment Mr. Big bowed. This horse, who carries so much, is in his senior years. Happy and joyous of who he is, and what he has accomplished in teaching others. Going down on his front legs for an animal that doesn't have a body yet. And she tapped his head with that little wand.

I don't know exactly what passed between them. I just know we were allowed to see it.

This was my first reading after my certification as a Soul Level Animal Communicator®, and my first with an animal not yet born. I didn't know how it would play out. But it flowed the way it was meant to. Star 2 showed up whole, with humor and pride and a soul contract she wasn't about to let me read too closely. She knew exactly who she was coming to, and she couldn't wait to get here. Whenever we play the number and list game at the start of a reading, the animal who steps forward almost always shows us something we weren't expecting to see.
