The Distant Light

Somewhere out in the distance there is a point of light. That light gets nearer and you feel something within you.

This is a guided meditation of about thirteen minutes, followed by a short conversation. There is nothing to prepare, and nothing you need to be good at.

You begin by settling. Feeling the ground under you, and the way the earth pushes back. Letting that come up through your legs, your chest, your arms, until it moves through the top of your head and out into the sky. Then you wait. And out in the distance, far away, something begins to approach. It gets larger and nearer until you can see that it is a bubble of light, and that there is someone inside it.

Who arrives is not up to me. It might be an animal you know. It might be one you have never met. It might be a guide, or something you have no name for at all. Whoever it is, they have come to give you something. You do not have to speak. You just have to be there.

Then the light draws back into the distance, the way it came. The connection stays.

About the last three minutes

This meditation was recorded live with two colleagues, Karolyn Krishnani and Gaye Swordsma, both practitioners. Afterward I asked them what they had experienced, and they were kind enough to say. That conversation is on the end of this video. A giraffe turns up, and an arctic wolf.

Sometimes hearing someone else describe what came to them is what brings your own back into focus. What you saw, or heard, or felt.

If you would rather just have the meditation, it ends at 13:20.

Before you begin

Find somewhere you will not be interrupted. Lie down if you can, or sit comfortably. Headphones are lovely but not required. The background sound is deliberately quiet, so that it stays underneath and does not pull at you. It fades out when the meditation ends.

How this was made

The meditation is mine. I wrote the script and recorded the narration in my own voice. The still image was generated with AI. The nature ambience is from Pixabay, used under the Pixabay Content License. YouTube adds a note to the description whenever any visual element in a video is generated. I want you to know exactly which element that is.
